Kunsthalle Winterthur

The third room

Der dritte Raum

This is the place to meet and communicate within the Kunsthalle. In an open office display this room combines administrative and public structures and makes the team of the Kunsthalle visible and accessible. ‘Der dritte Raum’ is designed by Swiss artist Mark Divo (*1966) who is famous for creating highly social platforms within art contexts calling them ‘inhabited sculptures’. ‘Der dritte Raum’ is open to the public during the opening hours of the exhibitions.

Cafe des Arts

Once a month on a Wednesday evening Lucia A. Cavegn and Katharina Henking turn the room into a meeting place for local artists and their friends. The evenings are programmed by ever changing special guests and offer different kinds of events.

Publish and be damned / Library

A cosy sofa environment and a selection of publications in the library invite the visitor to have a seat and learn more about the exhibition and the artists. Moreover a selection of ‘Publish and be damned’ publications is available. ‘Publish and be damned’ was founded 2004 by Kit Hammonds and Emily Pethick in London; it is a collection of self-initiative art publications by artists, critics, writers or curators. The ever growing archive is presented at an annual fair in London; the Kunsthalle gets a choice of the most recent publications three times a year.

Archive of the Winterthur artists

In the archive artists from the city of Winterthur can store their documentation folder; the archive currently hosts documentation material of more than 80 artists. For the visitors it provides a unique opportunity to get an overview of the local art scene within almost no time.
